Oakes Fegley

Leading Role in The Goldfinch and Its Reception

In 2019, Oakes Fegley played the younger version of Theo Decker in the film adaptation of Donna Tartt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Goldfinch. Despite the film’s ambitious scope and ensemble cast, including Ansel Elgort and Sarah Paulson, the adaptation directed by John Crowley received largely negative reviews. The movie underperformed significantly at the box office, grossing just $870,000 during its opening weekend across 2,542 screens, making it one of the weakest debuts for Warner Bros. Pictures at the time.

Critics cited narrative pacing and adaptation struggles as key issues. Cast members, including Paulson, later reflected that the material might have been better suited for a longer-form adaptation, such as a limited television series.

Personal Life

As of now, Oakes Fegley is focused on his education and acting career. Given his young age, he is not publicly known to be involved in any romantic relationships. He continues to reside in the United States, where he balances his professional projects with family life and academic commitments.
