Personal life

Dequantes Devontay Lamar, popularly known by the stage name ‘Rich Homie Quan’, is an American rapper who was born in the city of Atlanta on 4th October, 1989. When Rich Homie was young, he used to be a loner in school. He liked reading and Literature and showed great interest in writing classes. In the long run, he also developed keen interest for baseball, a very popular American sport, and spent four years honing his skills, in the sport. During this time, he aspired to become a professional baseball player. He began playing at the varsity level as a center fielder and leadoff hitter during his freshman year and earned a scholarship from Fort Valley State University.

However, Rich Homie’s passion for baseball soon faded. He found solace in rapping, instead. Soon, he found a job and in no time, he got fired. This had a huge negative impact on his life and he took to robbery and theft, which eventually led him to prison for 15 months. The 15 months that he spent in jail helped him to re-think about life and when he got out, he was so longer, the same person. During this time, he had decided not to be a shy person anymore and things seemed to change a great deal since he become an extrovert.

Talking about friends and family, Rich Homie has three kids all of whose ages range between 1-8 years. His father is Corey Lamar, who was once shot four bullets when his barber shop was vandalized by thieves. He has been dating his partner Amber Rella for a long time now. Like most other rap artists, Rich Homie is a fashion icon for many youngsters. He likes to dress up and carry neck chains with him.

Career

Rich Homie commenced his career in the year 2012 when he released his first mixtape titled ‘Still Going In’. He was hailed as Atlanta’s rising rapper superstar by The New York Times, who wrote that he delivered songs with heart and melody, just like singers do when they are on a verge of a breakdown. His single titled ‘Type of Way’ stood at Number 50 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Rich Homie has been associated with the likes of Trinidad James, Young Jeezy, YG and 2 Chainz. He featured on the song titled ‘My N***a’ by YG, a song which stood at Number 19 on the Hot 100 list. He also featured in 2 Chainz’s second album. The 2013 Michigan State Spartans football team adopted “Type of Way” as an anthem. He was named to the 2014 XXL freshman class.

Rich Homie got involved in a lot of controversy when he was reported to have two seizures and he fell and cracked his head on the set while shooting the video for his single ‘Walk Thru’. However, he denied having used any drugs. Rich Homie’s song titled ‘Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh) was released on 1st April, 2015 on Youtube which has by now gained over 99 million views! Rich Homie became a millionaire in 2012. His net worth as of 2016 is $2 million.
