Early Life and Education

Patricia Rooney Mara was born on April 17, 1985, in Bedford, New York. She graduated from Fox Lane High School in 2003. After high school, she enrolled at George Washington University, where she studied for one year. She later transferred to New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, from which she graduated in 2010 with a focus on psychology and international social policy.

Career Beginnings and Early Roles

Rooney Mara made her screen debut in 2005 with a role in the horror film Urban Legends: Bloody Mary. She subsequently made television appearances, including a guest role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and in the legal drama Women’s Murder Club in 2007. Her feature film debut came in 2008 with the independent film Dream Boy.

Breakthrough Roles and Recognition

Mara gained wider attention for her role in the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street and her portrayal of Erica Albright in David Fincher’s critically acclaimed film The Social Network. In 2011, Mara delivered a standout performance as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, also directed by Fincher. Her portrayal earned her widespread acclaim and nominations for both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.
