Patricia Rooney Mara was born on April 17, 1985, in Bedford, New York. She graduated from Fox Lane High School in 2003. After high school, she enrolled at George Washington University, where she studied for one year. She later transferred to New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, from which she graduated in 2010 with a focus on psychology and international social policy.
Rooney Mara made her screen debut in 2005 with a role in the horror film Urban Legends: Bloody Mary.
