Career in Journalism

Sonia began her journalism career in 1990 at the Perth-based radio station 6PR. At a young age, she made history by becoming Australia's youngest female news director. During her time at 6PR, Sonia also contributed to Channel Seven as a journalist, appearing on Seven News Weekends and presenting the sports segment for Seven’s Footy Show in 1994.

Her career later took her to regional broadcaster GWN, where she worked as a news presenter before returning to 6PR and joining Channel Nine in 2000. Initially a substitute presenter, Sonia eventually became the weekday co-anchor for Nine News Perth alongside Dixie Marshall. From 2003 to 2007, the duo became recognized as a pioneering female co-anchor team in Australian news broadcasting.
