D'Juan Montrel Hart, better known by his stage name Young Dro, is an American hip hop recording artist. He was born on January 15, 1979, in Bankhead Court, a public housing project in Atlanta, Georgia. Raised in a challenging environment, Dro is the second eldest of his mother’s five sons. His father reportedly had 21 children, with Dro falling somewhere among the middle siblings.
Despite his eventual success in the music industry, Young Dro did not initially aspire to become a rapper. His interest in music developed in the early 1990s, inspired by the accomplishments of his friend Chris "Daddy Mack" Smith, one-half of the multiplatinum rap duo Kris Kross. Motivated by this, Dro teamed up with southern rapper Raheem the Dream in the late 1990s to pursue a music career.

The track also became a popular mobile ringtone, further boosting his visibility.
Following this success, Dro went on to release additional music, including albums like High Times (2013), Young & Restless, and the collaborative mixtape Day One with DJ Drama. While High Times served as his second studio album, it was Best Thang Smokin’ that firmly positioned him in the spotlight of the Southern hip hop genre.
Young Dro was previously in a relationship with singer and actress Fantasia Barrino. Although there were rumors of an engagement in 2008, the relationship ended reportedly due to Barrino’s desire to refocus on her career. In interviews, Dro has spoken fondly of their time together and has stated that he remains a friend to her.
He was also romantically involved with a woman named Gizelle both before and after his relationship with Barrino. However, details surrounding these relationships often circulated in tabloid-style narratives, which he has largely kept private in recent years.
Tamika, the mother of Dro’s daughter, has been the subject of both personal and public conflict involving the artist. Young Dro released the song “FDB,” which he later cited as being influenced by issues between himself and Tamika. He claimed that she kept him away from their daughter and expressed criticism over aspects of her lifestyle.
Tamika publicly refuted these accusations, asserting that his absence from their daughter's life was due to his lack of effort rather than any obstruction from her. She also criticized “FDB” as being disrespectful and misrepresentative. Reportedly, Dro had not seen his daughter for two years at the time of these public statements.
Young Dro has openly discussed his struggles with substance abuse. He admitted to the use of drugs such as marijuana (Kush) and MDMA (Molly) and has made attempts to seek treatment. However, he did not complete his stay in rehabilitation. Despite these challenges, he has continued to release music and perform, maintaining a loyal fan base.
