Riyad Karim Mahrez was born on February 21, 1991, in Sarcelles, a northern suburb of Paris, France. He was raised in a family of Algerian heritage—his father originated from Algeria, and his mother is of Algerian descent. As a child, Mahrez frequently visited Algeria with his family, maintaining a close connection to his roots.
Mahrez began playing football at a young age and joined the local club AAS Sarcelles in 2004, when he was 13. He later advanced to play for Quimper, a club competing in the Championnat de France Amateur (CFA), where he made 22 appearances during the 2009 season.
