Mahrez began playing football at a young age and joined the local club AAS Sarcelles in 2004, when he was 13. He later advanced to play for Quimper, a club competing in the Championnat de France Amateur (CFA), where he made 22 appearances during the 2009 season.

Mahrez's professional breakthrough came when he joined Leicester City in 2014. Though initially unfamiliar to many English football fans, he quickly demonstrated his skill and technical ability.
